Is an internal audit checklist required?
While the preparation of an internal audit checklist is not mandatory under ISO 9001, its use is highly recommended as it helps auditors ensure that all relevant standard clauses are thoroughly covered within the audit scope. Therefore, since the preparation of an internal audit checklist is not required under clauses 2-9 of ISO 9001, an auditor cannot register a non-conformity solely based on the absence of such a checklist. However, if it is proven that a requirement was not covered in the audit, it would be considered a nonconformity.

Duties and roles of the audit team
The team members can include the lead auditor, auditors, and technical experts, that the lead auditor is responsible for selecting auditors, planning, organizing, and coordinating between the client organization and the certification body. The duty of auditors to conduct audits includes assessing processes and collecting and recording audit evidence based on the requirements of ISO 9001 and at the specified scope. When the audit team does not have sufficient and necessary knowledge to audit one or more parts of the organization’s processes, products, and services, a technical expert is added to the audit team whose task is to evaluate technical goods and services. An observer is a person who either participates in the audit process for training and to gain experience, or is an evaluator of a reputable company that intends to evaluate the quality of the audit. A guide is typically an individual designated by the organization to assist the audit team during the audit process and at the organization’s sites.
